The Quarantining Process

  • Many fish come directly from the oceans, lakes and rivers, although some species are increasingly being bred in captivity. These fish need to be acclimated, not only for life in an aquarium, but also for the food we’ll be feeding them, the change in water chemistry, new tank mates they may have never seen before (including you!), and a drastic change in lifestyle. Not every fish will survive the process of going through the transition from the wild to your home.

  • Do not expect every animal to make it through the Quarantining process. Transportation is probably the most stressful thing the fish will go through in its life, and the first few days are the hardest for them. Typically, after the stressful ordeal, they are more susceptible to parasites and disease. It is important not to expect every fish to respond well to medication that may be necessary to treat them.

  • The QT process will take at least 2 weeks. If any disease or parasites are detected, the time will be extended by no less than 2 weeks. It is important to make sure the animal is healthy for at least 14 CONSECUTIVE days. If disease is spotted, the time is restarted. Once the illness has passed, another 14 days will be needed to verify the animal is healthy enough to move on to your display tank.

  • Pricing may vary, as every fish has unique needs and medication may or may not be used. Since 14 days are required at minimum, payment or a deposit is required at the time of receiving the animal(s). The total amount will be negotiated and invoiced accordingly.

  • Capital City Aquatics (CCA) sources animals from LiveAquaria.com because of their 7-day Arrive Alive guarantee. In the event anything arrives dead, or dies within 7 days of delivery, CCA will file a claim. When approved, the client’s account will be credited for the amount paid for the animal (excluding taxes and fees).
